Tocllaraju (6,034 m) is a majestic peak located in the Ishinca Valley of the Cordillera Blanca. Recognizable by its perfect pyramidal shape and sharp summit ridge, it’s one of Peru’s iconic 6,000ers. The climb offers a beautiful mix of glacier travel, crevasse crossings, and technical alpine terrain, making it an excellent goal for experienced climbers aiming to push themselves a little further.

PREPARATION
Fitness
Excellent physical condition is required. Summit day is long and demanding, and the altitude and technical sections require climbers to be well-prepared and acclimatized.
Technical
Moderately to highly technical. Involves steep snow and ice up to 60°, fixed rope sections, and a final exposed summit ridge. Prior glacier and rope experience is necessary.

Itinerary
Day 1 – Huaraz to Ishinca Base Camp (4,300 m)
Drive to Pashpa and hike ~4–5 hours into the stunning Ishinca Valley. Set up camp at the base camp shared with Urus and Ishinca peaks. 🏕 Overnight at Ishinca Base Camp.
Day 2 – Hike to High Camp (5,000 m)
Carry gear and ascend 3–4 hours to the glacier moraine where High Camp is set up. Rest and prepare gear for the early summit attempt. 🏕 Camp on snow or moraine at 5,000 m.
Day 3 – Summit Tocllaraju and Return to Base Camp
Alpine start (~1:00 AM). Navigate crevassed glacier terrain, climb steep snow ramps and exposed ridgelines. Final 50–60° pitch to reach the summit ridge. Enjoy 360° views of Ranrapalca, Palcaraju, and the entire Ishinca Valley. Descend to High Camp, rest, and continue to Base Camp. 🧗 Climb time: 10–12 hours round trip
Day 4 – Return to Huaraz
Trek out of the Ishinca Valley back to Pashpa (~3 hours) and drive to Huaraz. 🚐 Afternoon arrival in town.
